The Core Knowledge Sequence guidelines for each grade follow the same basic outline:
I: Elements of Music
Elements of music start out basic at the Kindergarten level and are built on year after year
II. Listening and Understanding
Masterworks, Composers, and Instrument emphasis appropriate to age and grade
III. Songs
Folk songs specific to grade level. Songs connect to content learned in music and other subjects (History, Science, etc.)
